The video below is a recording of a webinar presented by Katie Frank, PhD, OTR/L, occupational therapist at the Adult Down Syndrome Center, on December 12, 2024.
Description:
Successfully completing personal hygiene and grooming tasks is important for avoiding illness, promoting good health, and participating effectively in the community. Individuals with Down syndrome may need assistance with these tasks but there are ways for them to become more independent in managing their personal hygiene and grooming. In this webinar, Katie Frank, PhD, OTR/L, shares practical strategies and tips for supporting individuals with Down syndrome in managing personal hygiene tasks such as toileting, bathing/showering, brushing teeth, caring for skin and nails, and more. Resources are shared.
Additional tips from attendees
- Norelco has a shaver that does not require water.
- Phillips One Blade is a small, easy-to-hold razor. A mother shared that her son uses it. He can do 85% of his face, and she helps him finish the sides and over the lips.
