Down Syndrome Awareness Month – October 31, 2025

Did you know? People with Down syndrome can be active participants in promoting their health.
Several of our posts throughout Down Syndrome Awareness Month have highlighted health conditions that people with Down syndrome experience more frequently than people without Down syndrome. Individuals with Down syndrome typically have more health conditions than individuals without Down syndrome. A study by Carfi et al. published in 2020 reported that 88.8% of the 421 adults with Down syndrome (aged 18 years or older) in the study had 2 or more chronic conditions.
We do not minimize the effects of having multiple health conditions; they can certainly have a significant impact on a person’s daily life. However, with the appropriate support, people with Down syndrome can – and do! – successfully participate in their own health promotion.
As Down Syndrome Awareness Month comes to a close, we wish to express our gratitude to the individuals with Down syndrome who we have had the privilege to meet and to all the people who love, support, and care for people with Down syndrome. Every day at our clinic, we have the opportunity to learn from people with Down syndrome about where they find meaning in their lives – their passions, goals, accomplishments, families and friends, jobs, activities, and more.
Thank you for including us in this wonderful community.
