Down Syndrome Awareness Month – October 2, 2025

Did you know? The life expectancy of people with Down syndrome has more than doubled since the 1980s.
People with Down syndrome are living longer and healthier lives than any other time in the past. During the 1900s, the life expectancy of people with Down syndrome increased dramatically, largely due to advances in cardiac surgery and general health management.
As life expectancy has increased, the population of adults with Down syndrome has grown significantly. While much has been learned, there continues to be a need for more knowledge about how to optimally support adults with Down syndrome in areas of life such as health, employment, relationships, leisure activities, and more.
