Story About Guardianship Hearings – Lighter Skin

Story
Because I am 18, I am responsible for making good choices about my health and other important things in my life.
I need help making these important decisions and keeping myself safe.
______________ is/are really good at helping me stay healthy and safe.
We are going to meet with a judge, so I can tell them that I want ______________ to keep helping me.
We might be at home and join a Zoom meeting on the computer with the judge.
Or we may go to a courthouse to have a meeting with the judge in person.
Someone will come to the house to let us know when and how we will meet the judge.
We should wear nice clothes for the meeting.
An attorney may be there to help my parents and me.
The judge and the attorney also want to keep me safe and healthy.
The judge will first ask ______________ some questions.
They will answer their questions.
Then the judge is going to ask me, “Do you know why we are here?”
I will tell the judge, “I am 18 and I want ______________ to help me stay safe and healthy.”
The judge is going to say, “We are here because ______________ want to keep supporting you. Is that ok?”
I will say, “yes.”
The judge may say a few more things and then the meeting will be over.
When the meeting is over, we will either turn off the computer or leave the courthouse.
