Evaluating Challenging Behaviors in Adults with Down Syndrome is a resource for health care professionals developed by the Down Syndrome-Autism Spectrum Disorder Workgroup of the Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group-USA (DSMIG-USA).
The resource is also available in Spanish and Portuguese.
The resource shares 4 important parts of an evaluation:
- Explore etiology of the behavior and any recent environmental changes or perceived stressors.
- Rule out a medical cause.
- Evaluate mental health.
- Consider an autism or regression assessment as indicated.
